Tartufo is an adorable Chow/Corgi/hamster mix. We had our session at the beautiful Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain. Pet photography, once my mainstay, has become fewer and farther between these days, so when I find myself getting to play with and to photograph a floofy dog, it’s like meeting an old friend.

      Behind the Scenes!

Tartufo is a senior dog but I think I’ve had better luck photographing caffeine-riddled hummingbirds. Getting a camera-ambivalent dog to look at the camera, while smiling (tongue out), and with BOTH ears up, is harder than one might think. We had a lot of ears-down photos and those are no good. At one point up there in that photo on the left, we were throwing small handfuls of gravel against the wall to get his ears to perk up. This is why I have long ceased to call myself a candid pet photographer. It were truly candid, you’d get nothing but dogs with their snouts to the grass trying to find duck poo to eat while looking scared. So thanks to Tartufo’s owners’ for being styling and posing assistants! And thank you to my intern Allison for some great behind-the-scenes photos.

SO adorable. I have a Chow mix as well, so I have a soft spot for this post.

Ah, who am I kidding? This dog is absolutely amazingly adorable regardless of my prior love for Chow mixes. :)

Floofy is the perfect word to describe Tartufo! Your photos are beautiful. :)
