I’m still volunteering at the Animal Rescue League of Boston every week (except for one that I missed, oops). And every week I mean to post some of my favorite photos of adoptable cats, but every week I’ve pushed them aside in favor of “real” clients. Real clients who have a real home, a society that all these cats would love to join. Forgive me, sob.

But I just recently received a mass email sent by one of the staffers asking all of us to get the word out for these cats in any way we can, especially the older ones and those who have been here longest. It’s kitten season now, and so the older set need our help more than ever so they don’t remain overlooked. I’m on it!! So here’s a long overdue post, asking anyone in the Boston area who may be thinking of adopting a cat to consider any one of these little (and big) gems…

      TIGER

      Rescue Tiger

He’s a pretty young cat, I believe only a year old. I hope that a cat I’ve photographed the previous week isn’t there by the next, but I’ve been seeing him too frequently. He makes his presence known my reaching out his arm as faaaaaaar as it can go from between the bars of his cage, every time I walk by. He doesn’t scratch, he doesn’t claw – he just wants to let you know that Hi! I’m here!

Can you resist a cat with such a direct, honest gaze?

I caught him making a pact with his neighbor.

      MARMALADE
      Marmalade on Petfinder

Marmalade is the definition of a pretty kitty. I took her upstairs to the sitting room and she very nicely let me photograph her on the red couch. She was SO pretty and SO photogenic, that I quickly snapped something like 50 photos of her in 60 seconds. She has the most beautiful buff-colored coat, and the daintiest eyes and mouth.

I just put my finger on it. Marmalade looks like Kate Moss.

      TONY

Here is Tony, a sweet kitty with the swishiest ear tufts and swoopiest whiskers. Have you noticed that I like orange cats?

      FIGARO
      Figaro on Petfinder

      Rescue Figaro

Remember Figaro? He was the first cat I photographed when I started volunteering two months ago, and he’s still there! Back then he was already at the shelter for too long. Someone please take him home! He hates being in his cage and hates to be left alone. There have been several times when I’ve come to the shelter to use the playroom, only to find that Figaro is already hanging out there. I hate and love to see him! When he sees me, his eyes light up and his purr machine goes into overdrive. He’ll do the same for you! He’ll get so attached that he literally becomes a gigantic, purring burr on your ankles, making walking extremely dangerous! If I could, I want take him home in an instant.

      Figaro

      FIGARO! FIGARO! FIGARO!

Ask to visit Figgy. Because he hates the cage so much, you can ask to have him transported to the sitting room upstairs (where the red chair is!) and get to know him there, where both of you can get all comfortable and purry. You’ll fall in love.

If anyone is thinking of adopting a new cat, come down to the ARL of Boston for a visit. Spread the word! These cats deserve a warm and loving home.

      More to come soon!

Oh, kitties! I want you all!

OMG Tigers eyes are amazing! it’s like orange cat attack! :) I have 2 already so I think I’m stocked up on cats. Kittens are totally over rated anyways. :) I’m sure with your fab pictures they will find some good homes fast :)

Awww… they are all so adorable! I love Tiger and his paws. I hate to see him in a cage, though, makes me sad :(. Lady Marmalade must be the prettiest kitty I’ve ever seen, and I have a cute one of my own!

If I had the space for a third kitty I would take Figaro in a heartbeat. He’s the cutest thing. I hope your great photos help to find him a home. Vintage kitties rule!!

Oh, I love Figaro! I wish we were allowed to take him… I have a thing for black&white animals =)

My heart breaks for all those beautiful cats living in cages, looking for homes.

How you do what you do just drop-dead amazes me. You are so inspiring, in your photography, and your love of animals (one clearly feeds the other  )

We’re a home of six rescued cats and a (privately) rescued dog on the Central Coast of Cali. ‘Tis a shame all the animals needing a loving environment everywhere.

My wish is that your beautiful and loving photographs help these find the houses and hearts they deserve.

You rock, with your “every cat there is, has been petted by me” hand. I’d be honored to hold it, Chickie!

Yet another reason I wish I lived in Boston (and didn’t have a boyfriend with pet allergies).

I’m going to put in my plug for an older shelter cat! I got my little guy Sergei from the Angel Animal Shelter in Jamaica Plain when he was just shy of a year old, and he has been the delight of my life. We’ve been together for six years, and hopefully have many more years ahead of us. Poor Sergei had been at the shelter for a long time after being rescued from a cat hoarder house; he was almost feral when the shelter took him in. You would never know it now – he is the most even-tempered tolerant cat I’ve ever known. All he wants to do is gentle play and take naps on my lap while I knit. Yay for older shelter cats with checkered pasts; all they want is to love you.

I cannot believe those cats haven’t been swooped up yet; they’re all gorgeous!

You are KILLING ME. As if I didn’t already have enough cats.

Li these are great! Thank you SO MUCH for taking some of your time to help photograph shelter animals. I photograph at one of the local shelters 1-2 times a week and am trying to find photographers to help other local sheltesr (can’t be in a million places at once lol) If I could share something that has worked wonders for the cats in my shelter: Put your work in the lobby! I went through all the cats who had been with us longest and photographed about 10 of the ones who had been there forever (some over a year.) I printed them in 8X10s and put them in the lobby. Within a month all but one had gone home! Take it with a grain of salt but just a thought :) Oh and I noticed you have lots of the orange cats ;) Hmmmmmmmm lol.

Oh! My heart is breaking. The little paws touching between the cages. I want to bring them all home!!!

Oh my!!! I wish I could bring them all home with me! We have 3 adopted kitties now! I’m sure your beautiful photographs will land homes for all these adorable kitties! You rock!

Rich may move out if I bring anything home. I have been hinting at adopting Logan’s deaf sister (2 little Logans bouncing around – how cute would that be?), but he is the voice of reason. I did bring up the possibility of a 4th cat prior to Logan, but no go. Even the explanation of how a 2:1 ratio of cat to human was perfect did not sway him. I think some crazy hyperactive cat to play with Keira would be a good addition…

You my dear are a very good soul. Truly believe you donating your talent will help them find a good home. Oh how I wish I could adopt them all.
