I do believe I am going to have to spin off this calligraphy portion into its own blog at some point, what do you think? Does the attention span find it distasteful to jump from pets to weddings to letterings? I think it might. I also think I can’t bear to work on getting another website up and running. So for now, if you want only to see pet photos, you may click on the “dogs & cats” category links at top. For weddings click “weddings.” And for calligraphy…stay on this post and scroll down for more!

Several months ago, the ladies at Love & Lavender wedding blog contacted me to see if I would be interested in doing hand-lettered logo work for their site. Um. The answer is yes. Yes yes yes. Yes please yes.

I love looking at other people’s work behind the scene, which is why I like sharing mine as well. So here was the journey from paper to web.

First, some rough sketches. I started writing with nib and ink but thought better of it and switched to pencil. I did a lot of pencil sketches, with different ways of drawing L’s and v’s and &’s and flourishes. I reverted back to my pre-teen self and drew lots of hearts. Scribble scribble. It could have gone on for days.

Love & Lavender logo work - DRAFTS

I picked a handful of treatments I liked best, and wrote it in ink.

I picked the ones I liked best out of those, scanned them in, and sent thumbnails for proofing.

After selections were made and edits were requested, I wrote the logos again – this time with more authority! – then scanned, digitally cleaned and prepped them for online use.

They ended up going with two logo treatments – one for the main site, and one for social networking sites. In exchange for the work I received an ad space and a little post.

I’m sort of very incredulous that I’m doing this…!

So gorgeous and fun! I love that you’re doing this and you have such a beautiful way about it. It just adds to the excitement that you’re helping a great website too!

Gorgeous! I loved seeing your process as well :)

I loved seeing a behind the scenes look into your process! And, I might not be the most objective person, but I love seeing your calligraphy on this blog! Although, an entire blog dedicated to your lettering sounds heavenly too!

You make me want to re-learn to do this. I learned in a high school art class but I suppose I wasn’t enamored of the style alphabet he taught us (very Gothic stuff) because I never really continued with it – despite how much I enjoyed it. Your lettering is beautiful and I love seeing all the behind the scenes stuff you do :)

Love watching your calligraphy evolving and I think it’s very much a part of you and Fat Orange Cat Studio. It fits in perfectly here.

Awesome – you’ll still got that whimsical style that I so adore very much!
I’d be happy with any of the 5 concept version too! xo

Definitely keep it all on this blog! There is nothing wrong with variety – it’s lovely to see something brand new each time I stop in. I am already heartbroken you effectively stopped the knitting blog :( Anyway, for us readers it’s less work to stop in one place – and as they say, variety is the spice of life :)

Oh yay! So fun to see the behind-the-scenes of it. As you know, we love your calligraphy and our beautiful new logos! Happy weekend :)
