Yesterday was my first day volunteering at the rescue league. They have many felines in need of homes, so I’ll be focusing on them for now. Not a problem, for it is I, Cat Lady. She who stops for all cats.

Before photographing I transported each cat to the “cat playroom” upstairs above the shelter, away from the cages and the unflattering fluorescent lighting. Hauling rather hefty cats in carriers up and down stairs and down hallways has reminded me once again how I need to start expecting the unexpected exercise that comes with photography. It’s getting too embarrassing to hear myself wince the next morning because I can barely operate my arms, you know?

This is Figaro, gorgeous and voluptuous. He could eat Veebs for breakfast and still be hungry. If I were to adopt him I’d rename him as Bustopher Jones.

Below is the photo I submitted for petfinder.com

But this one is my favorite.

So cool that you’re taking photos at the shelter. Figaro is quite handsome but oh my god that last shot is funny!

OMG, Figaro is such a gentleman. He needs a Mr. Rogers jacket and a bow-tie, please.

Carriers! Duh. See, for two years, I carried the cats in my arms from the cat room to the vet room where I could photograph them in relative peace. There were times when I know it was stressful for the cat and for me and I went home more than once with snags in my handknit sweaters (Why I wore the sweater to the kennel one may never know!).

That playroom is an amazing spot – great for the kitties and gorgeous light for your shots. He’s a beauty.

Good Karma is going to come to you tenfold for helping the shelter and the animals with your photography. What a really kind and incredibly helpful way to volunteer and really make a difference.

With pictures like these I bet Figaro will have a very short shelter stay. Good for you – practice & a good deeds brillant plan!

Figaro is such a sweetie! His big fluffy tail and huge size reminds me of my (rescued) Maine Coon, Macbeth.

I think photographing pets in shelters is amazing – really sells the “product” better than the usual snapshots! I predict a lot more pets will be finding forever homes, because of you :-)

Gorgeous, just gorgeous. What an awesome name too.

Just found your blog today. Great photos! Your comment on the last one had me laughing out loud. It was perfect.

Li, I do remember you from the League! Figaro looks absolutely fabulous in your photographs, but then of course, he is fabulous. You give new meaning to the term “glamour puss”! Marna
